Harmony XL Pro: what clinics ask before they buy

Harmony XL Pro is still sold new in Australia, and for a lot of clinics it is the right call. It is the established, cost-effective way into a multi-application platform: ClearLift Q-switched for tattoos and pigment, ClearSkin for acne and rejuvenation, iPixel ablative resurfacing and AFT IPL, on one system with a very large library of proven protocols and one of the widest installed bases in the country.

Harmony XL Pro or Alma Harmony?

Both are current Alma platforms, both supported here, and the difference is straightforward. XL Pro has a single applicator port, a mature protocol library and the lower entry cost. Alma Harmony is the newer platform: two applicator ports so combination treatments run without a hardware swap, the always-on VascuPen, up to ten applicators and the current interface. If budget decides, choose XL Pro. If workflow and breadth decide, choose Alma Harmony. Either way you are not locked in, because Alma offers a trade-in path from XL Pro to Alma Harmony. A clinic that starts on XL Pro today can move up later and carry the value across.

What it treats

Tattoo removal and pigmented lesions with ClearLift, acne and non-ablative rejuvenation with ClearSkin, fractional ablative resurfacing with iPixel, and superficial pigmentation, vascular lesions, photorejuvenation and hair removal through the AFT IPL applicators. Skin types are applicator-dependent, with the narrow-band IPL options extending safe treatment to darker skin.

Who operates it

The laser applicators are Class 4 and operator rules are set state by state; the IPL applicators are regulated separately in some states. Most Australian clinics run XL Pro with a nurse or senior therapist who has completed Alma clinical training. Training length depends on how many applicators you take, and Alma stays in contact after installation for the period when the harder questions surface. See laser and IPL regulations.

Buying from the manufacturer

Alma Lasers Australia is Alma’s own Australian subsidiary, covering New Zealand from Sydney, so service, parts, training and protocol support come from the same team that sold the platform. We do not publish list prices, because the configuration depends on which applicators your clinic will use. Bring your treatment prices and weekly bookings to a demo and we will build the numbers with you. Equipment finance is available through Medfin.

This is What the Experts Are Saying about Alma Harmony XL PRO

Clinical evidence and running costs

Clinical evidence. Twelve peer-reviewed studies on the Harmony skin platform and its applicators are listed on our clinical evidence page, with journal, year and first author for each paper. The full searchable library is in Clinical Resources.

Running costs. Harmony XL Pro has no per-treatment consumables: no single-use tips, cartridges, pulse cards or proprietary gels. Ongoing cost is applicator life, servicing and ordinary clinic supplies. How running costs compare across aesthetic devices.

Genuine Alma. Systems supplied by Alma Lasers Australia are included in the ARTG, carry an Alma serial number registered with Alma, and come with manufacturer warranty and local clinical training. How to tell a genuine Alma device from a lookalike. More questions from clinic owners are answered in our Q&A for clinics. For the science behind collagen stimulation on this platform, see bio-stimulation explained.

FAQs

  • Both are current Alma multi-application platforms and both are supported in Australia. Harmony XL Pro is the established, cost-effective option: a single applicator port, a mature protocol library and a wide installed base, which makes it the sensible choice for a clinic entering laser and IPL work or watching capital closely. Alma Harmony is the newer platform: two applicator ports so combination treatments run without a hardware swap, the always-on VascuPen, up to ten applicators and the current interface. If budget decides, XL Pro. If workflow and breadth decide, Alma Harmony. And because Alma offers a trade-in from XL Pro to Alma Harmony, starting with XL Pro does not lock you out of upgrading later.

  • Most Alma platforms sold in Australia run without per-treatment consumables. Alma Soprano (Titanium, ICE Platinum, ICE), Harmony XL Pro applicators, Alma Hybrid, Accent Prime and Alma PrimeX do not need single-use tips, cartridges, pulse cards or proprietary gels for each patient. The clinic’s ongoing costs are the applicator’s rated life, standard servicing and ordinary clinic supplies such as ultrasound gel.

Two Alma applications do use consumables: Alma Opus (treatment tips) and DermaClear (treatment solutions). Both are stated on their product pages. Alma Lasers Australia can prepare a cost-per-treatment worksheet for your expected booking volume. See what an aesthetic laser really costs to run.

  • Harmony XL Pro is a single platform that runs many applicators, so a clinic can start with the applications it books most, for example ClearLift for skin rejuvenation and Dye-VL for pigmentation and vascular lesions, and add applicators later as the treatment menu grows. One chassis, one training pathway and one service relationship cover a wide range of skin indications, which keeps capital spread across more billable treatments.

Alma Lasers Australia installs and trains on every applicator and can advise which combination suits your patient mix.

  • Genuine Alma systems in Australia are supplied, installed and supported by Alma Lasers Australia, Alma’s own local company. They carry an Alma serial number that is registered with Alma, are included in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG), and come with manufacturer warranty, Alma clinical training and local service.

Clinics can confirm a serial number with their Alma representative before purchasing a device from any other source. Read the full guide: how to tell a genuine Alma device from a lookalike. Patients can ask the clinic to show the Alma serial plate on the device and which Alma platform is being used.

  • Yes. Alma Lasers Australia installs every device, trains the clinic’s practitioners, and provides service and applicator support from its offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. More than 450 clinics across Australia and New Zealand run Alma technology, and New Zealand clinics are supported from Sydney.

Training covers protocols for Australian skin types and sun exposure, and ongoing clinical education is available through Alma Academy events.

  • Every installation includes on-site clinical training by Alma’s Australian clinical team, protocol guides for each applicator, and follow-up training when a clinic adds staff or applicators. Ongoing education runs through Alma Academy: in-house workshops, advanced masterclasses and hands-on sessions in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Service engineers, applicator support and loan arrangements are handled from Australia, and each clinic has a named Alma representative. Clinics can request refresher training at any time.

  • Soprano combines wavelengths including 1064 nm, which is the wavelength used for hair removal on darker skin, and its in-motion delivery heats the follicle gradually with contact cooling, which lowers the risk of surface heating. For skin rejuvenation on darker skin, Harmony XL Pro’s ClearLift works below the surface without ablating it. Alma Lasers Australia trains practitioners on protocols for Fitzpatrick IV to VI, including test patches, fluence selection and sun-exposure history, which matters in Australia’s high-UV environment.

Suitability is always assessed by the treating practitioner.

  • Alma platforms are supported by peer-reviewed clinical studies and by the ARTG inclusion of the devices supplied by Alma Lasers Australia. Clinics can read the published studies by platform or browse the clinical resources library on this website, request study summaries from their Alma representative, and attend Alma Academy sessions where Australian practitioners present protocols and case series for local skin types.

Alma Lasers Australia is building an Australian case library with clinics that agree to share anonymised before-and-after series. Clinics interested in contributing can contact their representative.
