A skin analysis machine is a controlled imaging system. It photographs a patient’s face under fixed, repeatable lighting through a set of optical filters, so what you see is the skin itself rather than the room, the window or the phone camera. Alma IQ does that with 360° Light Technology and eight imaging modes, and turns the result into a report and a treatment plan.

What does a skin analyser actually show?

Each light mode isolates a different layer. Parallel polarised light reads surface microrelief, texture, fine lines and pores. Cross polarised light suppresses surface reflection to expose pigmentation, vascular conditions and deeper structures. True UV reveals underlying pigmentation, sebaceous activity and acne-related bacteria through fluorescence. Dedicated melanin and vascular modes map uneven tone and capillary activity. Daylight simulation gives an honest baseline for colour, and 360° grey mode strips colour away entirely so volume loss and contour change become obvious.

Why clinics buy one

Three reasons, in order of how often we hear them. First, consultation conversion: patients who can see what the practitioner sees agree to treatment plans more readily than patients being told. Second, plan scope, because analysis surfaces concerns the patient never raised and the naked eye would miss, which turns a single-concern visit into a considered course of care. Third, retention, because repeat scans document progress objectively and give the patient a reason to come back and look.

What to compare before you buy

Look at repeatability first. If lighting and head position are not controlled, two scans four weeks apart cannot be compared and the machine becomes a marketing prop. Then look at what happens after the scan: whether the system only produces images or also generates a report and a treatment guide. Does it need a laser to be useful?

No. Alma IQ works as a standalone consultation and documentation tool in a clinic with no energy devices at all. It becomes more useful alongside a treatment platform, because the recommendations map onto devices you own, but it is not a bolt-on accessory.
