Treating active acne in clinic, and what comes after
Acne is two problems in sequence. The first is the active, inflammatory phase, and the second is what it leaves behind. A clinic that only owns a resurfacing laser can treat the second and has to turn the first away. A platform that does both keeps the patient from the first consultation through to the last scar session, which is a much better business than either half on its own.
Active acne: calming the skin before anything else
On Alma Harmony two applicators cover the active phase. ClearSkin Pro is a non-ablative laser that treats inflammatory acne and the earliest scarring in the same course, using a cooled tip so the epidermis stays intact while the dermis is heated. Iris Acne is a dual-band IPL applicator: the blue end of the spectrum targets the bacteria involved, and the longer wavelengths reach deeper inflammatory lesions. Between them a clinic can run a course of in-clinic acne treatment that does not depend on a prescription, which is the point at which many beauty and skin clinics currently refer out.
Then the scars
Resurfacing skin that is still breaking out is chasing new scars, so the active phase has to be settled first. Once it is, the established scarring is treated on Alma Pixel CO2, Alma Hybrid or Alma Opus, depending on scar type and skin type. Skin type and expectations
Darker skin types are treated conservatively at both stages, because post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is the risk to manage. Patients should be on daily sun protection from the first visit. Active acne usually needs a course of several sessions before the skin is quiet enough to assess scarring honestly, and that assessment is easier with objective imaging such as Alma IQ, which separates real scars from flat marks that will fade on their own.

For patients who need no visible downtime, Harmony XL Pro’s ClearLift non-ablative applicator treats below the surface and is often used between or instead of resurfacing sessions.

Yes. Alma Hybrid combines an ablative CO2 laser with a 1570 nm non-ablative laser in one system, and the practitioner sets the balance between the two for each patient. That means a clinic can offer a lighter treatment with short downtime for a patient who cannot take time off, or a deeper resurfacing session for scars and texture, on the same platform.
For Australian patients this matters because pigment risk and sun exposure often argue for a staged, moderate approach rather than the most aggressive single session. Hybrid is designed for that staged approach.
