What is acne?

Acne – whiteheads, blackheads or pimples – occurs when hair follicles become plugged with oil and dead skin cells. It can affect people of all ages and may be persistent, with more cropping up just as others have healed. In very severe cases, acne can cause scarring, not to mention emotional distress. Alma’s energy-based treatments tackle acne-causing bacteria deep in the skin, reducing inflammation and scarring left behind.

Acne treatment: questions patients ask

How does laser acne treatment work?

Harmony XL Pro ClearSkin combines a laser that targets the bacteria and oil glands involved in acne with cooling and vacuum, without drying medications. Scarring left behind is treated separately with resurfacing such as Alma Hybrid.

Does it replace medication?

Not necessarily. Many patients use it alongside or instead of topical treatment. Discuss your current medications with the clinic, especially isotretinoin, which usually needs a waiting period before laser.

How many sessions?

A course of several sessions, typically one to two weeks apart, then maintenance.

Is there downtime?

Little to none. Mild redness for a few hours is common.

Does it hurt?

Most people describe warmth and the pull of the vacuum. The cooling keeps it comfortable.

Can teenagers be treated?

Yes, with parental consent. The practitioner assesses suitability.

Where can I find a clinic near me?

Over 450 clinics across Australia and New Zealand use Alma technology. Tell us your suburb and treatment and we will point you to a clinic in your area.
